So I have a new favorite word.
A couple years ago, my friend Lauren told me about this word her boyfriend once used, "Kismet." It's an old english term for "fate." She said she wanted to buy an orange striped cat and name it Kismet. I loved the idea. Strangely enough, that same summer, our barn cat had four kittens. One of them was orange and had stripes. He was actually quite beautiful... and I think I know who the father was (cough.. sherman.. cough). Anyway, I named him Kismet in honor of Lauren's mini-dream.
And then I kind of forgot about that, and moved on. And today I was watching some ridiculously lame show... the one with Pamela Anderson in the book store. And at the beginning of each return-from-commercial-break, this "chapter" comes up, and at one point, written under "Chapter 3" was something about "Stewart's return turned out to be kismet." I saw the word and everything inside of me got all warm and fuzzy and excited. Kismet!! Fate. Destiny. Kismet. It makes me want to get a cat and name it Kismet, since I already decided that my next dog is going to be named Carrick. But I don't know, yelling "Carrick!" is kinda hard on the consonants. Kismet is much more fun to say. But I don't think I can name a dog Kismet when I already have such strong alliances to the Gaelic word for rock (carrick).
I just don't know. But I do know that I will get two pets, and they will have these names. I'm just not sure which will have what. If I did name my dog Kismet, it would be ironic, because Lauren helped me name my last two dogs. She picked Snowball (it was after her teddy bear) and she helped me pick out Kopper.
So, it would be an interesting twist of "Kismet" if I ended up using her idea for my next dog.
Funny how that is. ;)
